Cats, But Not in Bed - Lesson #1

Helloooo Bloggy Friends!!

I had mentioned last post that I was going to try to tackle this book.

I can't tell you how thrilled I am that so many of you accepted my invitation to dive in and play along!
My intention is to have this be an ongoing project that anyone can join and link their lessons up to.
I need to figure out how to do it (Mr Linky and adding categories is new to me), but I want to have this on my sidebar so we can keep track of everyone's progress :)

So, thank you so much for the great excuse to learn a few new tricks in the real world and the Bloggy one!

Lesson one is all about drawing cats.  You're supposed to draw them while lying in bed....I didn't do that part....cuz once I get in bed, I sleep....I wouldn't be able to keep my eyes open, let alone hold a pencil....haha!

They are supposed to be out of your imagination....and the instructions say to make your lines "simple and expressive".  I told you I had trouble with letting go of details.  These were the first 3 attempts.
Then I did these.

I started looking at her examples and applying that feeling to my drawings a bit more....
Then, I realized I was supposed to be using a pen....oops...
....promptly switch utensils...aaaaand....
This page came about.

I was numbering them to keep track of how they were flowing.  Maggie wanted to write the numbers for me...and after that got boring, she did her own cats...

These just make me smile!

She even numbered hers, too :)

I finished up with one last cat....in alien superhero colors...

....just to try to loosen up and be ridiculous...

I've got a long way to go....haha!

Please link up your posts as you complete the lessons!
This will be for Lesson 1.

I'm going to shoot for a lesson a week.
I'm hoping you can still link if these are accessed from the sidebar *crossing fingers*
We shall soon see!

Can't wait to see what you do with this book!

Wow! I love your kitties! Mine are definitely more simple (like in the book) and more childlike rather than realistic. I will have to take pictures and post them soon...I'm aiming to do that this weekend. Thanks for doing this...it's going to be fun! I've already done 4 or 5 lessons. I skip around though rather than go straight through. That's ok, right? Lol.
My fave so far has been the one where you draw faces with your non dominant hand. I'm getting pretty awesome at drawing as a lefty! Can't wait to share. :)

Yes I do have this book and I love it! but unfortunately have too many things going on to join in the weekly lesson. I will come and visit to see how it is going. I don't think I could draw a cat from memory - yours are great, but the ones that made me smile the most are your daughters.
Enjoy!

hey wait - I forgot to order the book! I found a used copy, but just realized I didn't get it. I do have some one-liner kitties I drew in her "silly" class. wonder where that picture is? Okay - I'm going to find a copy of the book again. (love your alien superhero kitty!)

I need to draw my kitties!! They like to snuggle up with me in bed, so they might enjoy posing at the same time!

Love the alien!!

Great cats, i'm amazed you did them all from your imagination.! I don't think you need to loosen up and do them her way, as they're perfect just as they are. I had done this assignment already back here at this post...

LOVE the cats Cam! They're all so character filled and different from each other! Love Maggie's too of course! Perhaps she'll grow up to be an artist like her mommy :) It's so cute when little girls copy their moms, like when she numbered her cat drawings. SO SWEET!

All these challenges are a hoot.
Your cats are great,
AND I really LOVE Maggie's cats. Something about kid's art that is so honest and real. Wow! How young is she and I hope you keep encouraging her to do her own thing.
