Buggy Eyed

Hello Dear Friends!

I've been trying hard to get back into being creative.  This is easier said than done when we're trying to milk every ounce of Summer out of the remaining days of vacation.  Maggie goes back to school on the 8th of August (early, huh?!).

But, when I saw that Butterfly Effect had the theme of INSECTS this week, I knew I had to join in.
First, I thought I'd revisit the fun Lesson from Drawing Lab (which, *ahem* I have not forgotten about.....new posts soon to follow) with the monkeys in this post HERE

Maggie picked a few random colors for me and I drew common bugs in this new, brighter colors.....

Is a cockroach less gross in red and green?

Or a wasp less intimidating with hot pink stripes?

....and since I was using the Drawing Lab book, I skipped ahead to Lesson 40 and decided to try my hand at a whimsically drawn bug collection.

I did a large blue beetle......

....a bright colored grasshopper....

...and a moth and beetle duo....

I enhanced the mattboards with Sharpie pens and silver metallic ink.  Here's what they look like together as a grouping.

Each  is 5x7 inches.
I think I may try a larger collection.  I have a few 8 x 10 mattboards around here that could use a purpose :)

Thank you for peeking in today!
....and do crawl, fly or buzz over to Butterfly Effect and add your buggy creation to the mix :)

Bugs....er, I mean, Hugs,
Cameron

You really went all out on the bugs. :)) Awesome all of them, although the cockroach and the wasp are still scary to me. :)

These are great, you are amazing at drawing :) I love the moth and the grasshopper.
I don't think anyone would ever be scared of bugs if you designed them lol.

Wow these are amazing! The detail is amazing. You are a wonderful artist. I think that the wasp and whimsey red beetle are my two favorites. Also thank you for the lovely comment on my insect post. =)

Now I am itching all over. No, not really : )

Your blue beetle reminds me of a blue beetle art work that is some sort of sacred symbol in Egypt. It was 2009 when we went, so now my memory fails me.

Your have a knack for details my friend!

So many of these beasties make my skin crawl if I see them in real life, but I do have a fascination in drawing them. I went through a face of drawing extreme close ups of fly faces etc. Yours are gorgeous and I love the whimsical ones totally!

They really are rather good. I want to see more (but not for real... cause they make me feel all itchy and tickly!).

What a coincidence! I just revealed to the world recently that I have a huge fear for insects: http://amalia-k.blogspot.com/2012/07/the-bee-and-i.html

Don't laugh, but I think this was the fastest I've ever scrolled down through a blog post! I saw flashes of pretty colored bugs all the way there... I'm sure they're all very pretty. But they could be diamond studded and I STILL would run anyway. :))

ive said this many times, if a roach was pink and glittery it wouldnt be so terrifying, lol!
love what you've done.

That beetle is pretty amazing, and I do like the roach, too. It looks like it's thinking of places to crawl under ;-)

I do not like bugs at all, but I think I may change my mind after seeing yours! I love the color choices! Very nice work!

Loving your bugs, they are so cute.

Yeah, it is always a bit hard to get back onto the horse after a break. But you're doing well, my friend! :)
