Tired of Swimming Yet?

I never thought I'd say this....
but I think I need a little break from Mermaids for a while...haha!

Though, when you see this little Sparkle, you might not agree :)

This is what  I received from Heidi of Little Nore.

Here's the last installment of Mermies that I've painted.  (Thanks to all the patient ladies who waited for their naughty Hostess to finish her end of the bargain!)

"Feeling Shy"

"Kelpie Princess"

"Reflection"

"The Mer-Girl with the Sea Dragon Tattoo"
I know, I know...I'm a pun loving Dork :)

"Sea Turtle Dreams"

I can't wait to see who gets what!  It's always such a fun surprise to learn which Mergirl went where :)
Well, that's enough saltwater and scales for me right now...I'm going to see if I can squeeze out a bit more Halloween before it's all about Christmas gifts in the Etsy World!

Hope everyone's been keeping their head above water :)
Big Hugs,
Cameron

Mermaid Swap Begins Monday!

I've just been so excited about this Swap!  I was just planning to do quick mermies on cardboard....keep them loose and fun.....not too detailed...

...but, I should've known better....haha!

They are each having such a personality and a story, that I'm going to unwrap all those I've already prepared and scan them so I can maybe make some MOO stickers or other fun things out of them :)
I hope they bring as much happiness to their new owners as they've brought me!

I realize I haven't been sharing their titles with you. I'll remedy that now! I'll just preface them first by reminding you that I'm a pun-loving dork...haha!

Here is another installment of Fishy Girls....

"Eel Fated"

"Fish-anista"

"Violet Jewels"

"Good Boy"

I can't wait to see what your Mermaids have in store for me!
If you would like to join in and haven't yet signed up....no worries!
As long as your envie is postmarked by Sept 21st, you're good....so, please email me to sign up :)

Hope your weekends have been full of things that bring a smile to your face!
Warmest hugs,
Cameron

Wings are for Flying

Hello Everyone!
Well, another week has just flown by!
Luckily, I made it back just in time to link up with the Butterfliers this week for their theme of FAIRIES!

I absolutely adore fairies...and mermaids and unicorns and...you get the idea ;P
In fact, I was just finishing a Fairy and Child painting the day I found out I was pregnant...weird, right?!
The painting is in my sidebar for those who've never seen it...

I even turned Maggie into a fairy a couple years ago.  I cut out her photo and added wings with colored pencil for the opening page of one of her scrapbooks.

I still haven't finished this book...or started anymore since, but at least this page turned out cute....haha!

I haven't painted a fairy in ages, so I was really looking forward to making something to link up!
After a few sketches, including this one....

I made this:

Her face kinda reminds me of Scully (Gillian Anderson) from X-files...haha!

I broke out my gold leaf again for her circlet...I just love that stuff :)

The words are bits from vintage children's books that I assembled to make this encouraging message,

You are beautiful, enchanting and wise...
Believe you have wings...
                                  ...and fly

Hope you like her :)

She is in the shop waiting for a new home.
Don't forget about the coupon code BDAYWISHES for 15% off until the end of April, just in case...heehee!

As always, thank you for stopping by!
This weekend we got to the Renaissance Faire!  I'll show pictures as soon as we return.

Oh, and don't worry Drawing Lab Lesson Partners...we will be doing the next Lesson next week, too!  So sorry I've lagged a bit on that :(

Enjoy your weekend...
...use those wings!

Super duper mega hugs,
Cameron

Autumn Inspired

It's cooled down a bit here....and it's making me so happy!  I'm so ready for Autumn to come!

In the spirit of preparing for the Magic and Macabre of the Season, I thought I'd indulge in some projects to get me in the mood!

These are a pair of earrings I've decided to call "Exotic Spice"....

Lush with freshwater pearls, swarovski crystals and semi-precious stones in colors of cinnamon, pumpkin and spice!

I entered an Autumn Bookmark swap (I'm having so much fun making these little things!) and made this using watercolors, stamps and gold embossing powder.

Speaking of handmade bookmarks, this is what I received for the Woodland Themed Bookmark swap...

Isn't it cute! Cindy Brown read that I love dragonflies and ladyslipper orchids....so, she made this just for me :)

Up next is a project I started 5 years ago!  It has been "almost done" all this time....so, last night, I just decided to finally take it out, put on the finishing touches....and finally call it DONE!

This is "The Goblin Queen" 10x13 inches watercolor and ink...

Surrounded by her minions and sinister pets, she reigns the Dark Forest dressed in her rich gown of Ghoul Green and Phantom Violet :)

Bring on the Fall!  What are you up to that's Autumn Inspired?

Happy Creating!

Work in Progress

Happy Wednesday Everyone!  I thought thaty I'd share a piece with you that is not yet finished.  I've never taken pics during the various stages of completion before, so I thought this would be the something new for both of us!
Plus.....if I put it out there, unfinished, incomplete, and in full view for the world to see....I'd have no choice but to get a moving on it again.  I always seem to work better on a deadline of sorts :)  Thanks for helping me overcome a little procrastination!

This is the reference photo I'm using for this piece....It is Killian again holding her dog. You can see another painting that I completed using a photo of her here.

I changed the sketch to have her holding a cat instead....though I know Familiars can really be any creature, I wanted it to be a little more obvious that these two were a Magical duo.

Here it is on 11 x 14 140 lb watercolor paper with the background put in.....this will not be the final background (or final anything, for that matter)....I still add more (and more) layers after I block in some of the other parts....no wonder it takes me so long to get one of these done...sheesh :)

Here, I've started the hair and skin tone....these 2 are, by far, the hardest things to get right, in my opinion!

The cat and the denim vest are started here.  The cat will be black, but I'm using a grey undertone for some of the sheen...on the vest, I utilized some watercolor pencil for the fine lines and details.

That's all I have so far....I'd guess it needs about 2 hours more of work before it's done.  I'm not sure, yet, whether I will define it in black ink after all the water media is finished.  Any thoughts?

My daughter likes me to describe how I draw and paint....and she has taken some of my practices to heart!
At 3 1/2 years old she's becoming pretty adept, at the risk of sounding like a bragging Mommy :)  Take a look for yourself....

This is a dragonfly from a coaster she picked up from the coffee table.

This one blew me away.  A fantastic rendition of one of her toy spiders (yes, I say one of....she likes bugs:)

Thank you for giving me an excuse to take a piece from the "in the works" pile and breathe into it some new life and excitement.  I look forward to posting a completed image of it soon!  I'll still be working on those altered pages, in the meantime....I find their quicker timeline of completion such a relief after taking on a larger scale watercolor!
Until we meet again,
Cam

Wow, I guess it's official!

I've been toying around with the idea of starting a blog lately...even created and deleted this 1 once already. Heck, who am I to think I have anything to say? But, then, who are any of us? Just everyday people...living everyday lives... I've decided this blog will serve to be an online journal of sorts.... a place to share my art, my musings, my thoughts even though they may be cranky, beautiful, honest, flawed, etc. Just a place to let things that reside within me to unfold and be recognized. My life has been in need of a little sprucing. Y'know, a little change that gets you out of your old ruts and into something a bit different...even a tad uncomfortable. A chance to become re-energized, perhaps? While this may not be what my dreamlife had in mind...envision a luxurious spa getaway somewhere surrounded by trees, delious food I didn't have to prepare myself, pairs of skilled, warm hands poised for pampering & a stack of magazines as high as my chin...my reallife wins when it comes to funding said dreamlife. So, I guess this blog is my little staycation...where the only massage therapist in the place is me! Bring on the footrubs and tv dinners! Though it will be a little difficult to type at the same time :)

On a more exciting note, I have another photo shoot set up for Wed with my good friend's daughter. She loves to play dress-up and pose for me. I used her pic as a reference for my painting "The Whispering Tree". She is really fun to direct so I think we should get some great shots! Maybe I'll ask her to take some pics of me for a change....hmmmm, those probably wouldn't inspire me to paint....but maybe to exercise!
